ITEM DESCRIPTION:
An original sculpture by sculptor and renowned Inuit artist, Henry Evaluardjuk. 21.12 oz. This piece from the 'Strolling Bear' series, made of precious serpentine, depicts a wandering bear. Iqaluit/Frobisher Bay origin. The piece is signed at the base of the sculpture on the right foot in syllabics and Roman. Pre-owned. Near perfect condition with exception of minor scratches and chips on surface. The item you will be receiving is guaranteed to be exactly as photographed in description.
Henry Evaluardjuk was a prominent Canadian Inuit (Eskimo) carver, painter, printmaker and draftsman. Born in Igloolik, Nanavut (of Canada), he died in Iqaluit, Frobisher Bay and created countless works of art that have been exhibited at The United Nations and The National Gallery of Canada. His work is also in the permanent collections of The National Gallery of Canada and several other major Canadian museums. His mediums of choice included materials significant to the Inuit culture, i.e.: stone, whale bone, tusk, ivory, bone, stonecut, linocut, pencil and oil painting. His subjects of choice were portraits, heads, animals (especially bears) and family structure related to the Inuit way of life.
